The Beatles are now no less seminal than Shakespeare in English culture, and it was interesting to hear on the radio that someone has busied themselves setting Shakespeare’s sonnets to The Beatles’ music. Can’t find any links, but it made me wonder whether Wordle Word Clouds could bring out any synergies between The Beatles and [...]

More acetates on Ebay, this time US 10 inch acetates from c. 1971-1972 of Lennon’s Power To The People, McCartney’s Another Day and Oh Woman Oh Why (one acetate for each side of Paul’s 1971 single), and Ringo’s 1972 glam-rock offering, Back Off Boogaloo. The seller claims the discs are 78 RPM: can that really [...]

Just too quiet here lately, so it’s nice to know, through the amazing power of the pingback, or somesuch, that “Dear Angie” is also favoured by Armour of Rod. Cheers, Rod! There may have been a bit of confusion with Dear Angie over time, since I moved it from Blogger.com to here. Though all of [...]

Not like me to have bad thoughts in church, is it? Still, there I was admiring all the paraphernalia of an Orthodox priest at the Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Manhattan, and I couldn’t help thinking about the way people wear their Ipod shuffles round their necks these days. There’s a copy of Hey Jude on eBay at the moment that would appear to be a three-pronger. Although the photo (if genuine) shows a three-pronged pushout, the seller hasn’t drawn attention to this in his spiel, so he may be unaware. Buyers have noticed, though, so bidding quickly reached over £10. Three prongers (see [...]

An eBay dealer is offering an American Apple shipping box for $400. It contains 25 copies of Cold Turkey, with picture sleeves. I wonder if this will sell any better than the American Apple shipping box containing 25 copies of Cold Turkey without picture sleeves, that failed to sell for $300 two weeks ago? Seemed [...]

A partial CD release has been spotted for Apple 44, Saturday Night Special by the Sundown Playboys. The A side now appears on Under The Influence a compilation album (these days perhaps we should say “playlist”) put together by Morrissey for DMC Records. The only Cajun record in Apple’s catalogue, Saturday Night Special is a [...]

A nice looking copy of Doris Troy’s Ain’t That Cute has just sold on eBay for £74. Meanwhile, there should be a battle royal brewing for the nice looking demo copy of Apple Of My Eye that’s currently on sale. Update The Badfinger single showed early promise but finished poorly, and in the end could [...]

Here are some interesting recent Apple transactions on eBay: Apple 28, Jacob’s Ladder by Doris Troy, was sold on eBay for £23. A demo copy of Apple 30, Think About Your Children by Mary Hopkin, was sold on eBay for £23.50. A copy of Apple 23, How The Web Was Woven by Jackie Lomax, fetched [...]

Hot Chocolate’s rare 1969 recording of Give Peace A Chance has finally made it onto CD. It sneaked out in late 2004 on a Hot Chocolate compilation CD called “A’s, B’s and Rarities”. The CD includes both Give Peace A Chance and Living Without Tomorrow, alongside many of the band’s big 70s hits. This is [...]
